Iconic techno mecca Watergate celebrates its 20th anniversary with a slew of events, a club-styled clothing collaboration, and a vinyl compilation in the upcoming months.

Berlin’s sought-after club kicked off the celebrations back in July with a full weekend rave. The events culminated with a curated series of events under the ‘WATERGATE 20 YEARS PRESENTS’ moniker, where roaring DJ names like techno powerhouse Charlotte de Witte and French dynamo Laurent Garnier hyped up the crowds.

But it seems like Watergate is far from putting an end to its 20th-anniversary celebrations. The Spree-side electronic hub announced a series of special events for October.

This schedule will see Watergate’s most cherished resident DJs take over the audio decks at European festivals such as ADE and EXIT under the ‘Watergate: 20 years’ banner.

Coming back to the club’s dancefloor, Watergate devotees will be spoilt for choice during the 20th-anniversary celebrations.

Blue-blooded DJs like Solomun, Richie Hawtin and Maceo Plex will perform at the Berlin nightclub in the months leading up to October.

Berlin’s Watergate will also team up with fashion brand Irie Daily in October to release a capsule clothing collection. It will include a series of hoodies, T-shirts, accessories, and old-school tracksuits.

In November, the music mecca will release a triple gatefold vinyl called Watergate 20 Years. The in-house label will feature 20 exclusive tracks by artists like Solomun, Adana Twins, Joplyn, and more.

Watergate’s co-founder Ulrich Wombacher told MixMag the electronic club was magical from the very beginning.

“Our club cannot be reproduced digitally. It is a place that brings people together. A place of warmth and closeness. A kind of cocoon, protected by the night and early mornings. It doesn’t work virtually.”

Back in 2002, Tresor saw daylight for the first time when it found shelter in an old office building. During its fledgling days, the club served as the go-to music hub for a mixture of sonics, including drum’n’bass and reggae – but now Watergate is one of Berlin’s most lusted-after electronic hubs.
