To celebrate its 35th anniversary, legendary techno hub Rex Club published an immersive 496-page photobook. Titled Rex Club 1988-2023 and curated by the club’s artistic director Antoine Molkhou, the visual mixtape is a nostalgic odyssey into the heart of Paris’ techno scene.

Ahead of its slated major makeover, the music temple wants to preserve its three-decade-long DNA through monochrome archival images. Featuring everything from flyers to original photos, Rex Club 1988-2023 is a black-and-white tour de force.

Through the photography of Maxime Verret, the photobook uncovers corners and details long secreted in shadows, revealing an architectural soul that is integral to Rex Club.

But the book is more than a photo gallery. It is a time capsule brought to life by past flyers and relics that echo the sounds of yesteryear.

As the club will close its doors for renovation this weekend, Rex Club 1988-2023 stands as an artifact of its past and a prelude to its future.

This month, Rex’s management announced the clubbing destination would close its door until the end of the year for renovation. “The club deserves this renovation while preserving its DNA, but its appearance will undergo profound changes,” the Instagram post reads.

Born in the heart of the acid house era, Rex Club has been a force majeure in Paris’s techno scene. Since its inception, the club has hosted a diverse roster of DJs, becoming an influential node in the city’s music ethos.
