After six years of serving as one of London’s most ambitious electronic temples, Printworks closed its doors for the last time on Monday. But the venue’s fate might not be sealed. Broadwick Live has reportedly signed a provisional deal with British Land to reopen Printworks once the redevelopment is finished.
Back in September 2022, the Surrey Quays superclub revealed that its 2023 spring season would be the last one “for a number of years.”
Following Printworks’ last hurrah, Broadwick Live’s co-owner Simeon Aldred told The Guardian the electronic institution might reopen in 2026.
“We can’t announce that [the reopening] is definitely happening, we haven’t signed any contracts, but the shape of the principles for a deal are there, and we’re going to be putting in for planning permission in the next few weeks.”
Aldred further added that Printworks’ 2.0 iteration would stay loyal to its trademark aesthetics. To pay tribute to the venue’s heritage, Press Halls’ visuals and layout will be preserved for the new main room.
Last year, Printworks bid adieu to its Canada Water home when British Land announced it would turn it into offices. But before shutting down for good, the venue treated music fans to a four-month-long final season.
Some of the artists that contributed to Printworks’ final soundtrack were legendary acts like Peggy Gou, Andy C, and Bicep.
