French music festivals might face cancellations and postponements during the summer of 2024. The country’s Interior Ministry revealed the 2024 Paris Olympics would require a large number of police officers – which might leave other events uncovered.

According to Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, the major sporting event will be guarded by 30,000 police officers and gendarmes between July 26th and August 11th. This means that music events overlapping with the 2024 Olympics, such as Lollapalooza Paris and Les Vieilles Charrues, will not have enough security resources.

Festival organizers and local politicians shared their concerns about the cancellations, saying that such restraints could have long-lasting effects on the events.

Representatives of the French music festivals threatened by the 2024 Olympics have reportedly met with the Culture Minister to discuss potential solutions. In the meantime, The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region said it would grant €2 million for security costs to help events go ahead.
