Billy McFarland is a good example of the mighty who have fallen and were brave enough to make a comeback. Fyre Festival’s co-founder – and convicted felon – claims he secured funding to settle his debts, launch Fyre Festival 2, and produce a Broadway musical about the doomed event.

Back in 2017, McFarland provided a visual handbook of everything that can go wrong in event management.

His vision of a luxury music festival on Pablo Escobar’s former private island with top-tier artists like Blink-182 transformed into a fiasco when ticket holders were met with questionable food, lack of security and inadequate accommodation.

Following the festival’s failure, McFarland pleaded guilty to multiple fraud charges. In 2022 he was released from his six-year prison stint, and a £23 million debt later, he’s ready to retake center stage.

Last month, the entrepreneur sent social media into a frenzy when he tweeted about a possible Fyre Festival 2.

The announcement got tongues wagging, sparking widespread speculation and skepticism among netizens.

But in a recent TikTok video, McFarland revealed he has attained investment to run a second edition. Alongside this, he further revealed that a Broadway musical titled Fyre Fest 1.5 could be in the works.

McFarland won’t star but will narrate, hiring an actor to portray him in the play’s lead role.

“We are in talks with partners to pay back all of my restitution and execute Festival Fyre 2 according to the original vision,” he said in the video. “We have to make happen what was always the dream.”

In an interview with Adam Glyn, McFarland characterized the musical as a fusion of Broadway style with contemporary music artists.

“Instead of like traditional Broadway actors, it’s going to be current music artists, combined with the Broadway format of the play – making fun of me, but also I think sharing some of the good sides as well.”
