Humboldthain Berlin rose from the ashes of another club

A relatively new addition to the city’s clubbing scene, Humboldthain first opened its doors in March 2013. Born at a time when nightlife owners were hunting for obscure niches to plant their brainchildren, the hippie music temple became a bohemian extension of Berlin’s clubland.

Somewhere between a rookie and a war-horse, Humboldthain is the brainchild of a group of artists who wanted to bridge the gap between nightlife and creative vision.  

The boutique clubbing destination carries the legacy of its predecessor, the techno-fueled Fate Club.

It might have closed its doors in 2011, but elements of Fate’s ethos and blueprint still live inside Humboldthain’s walls. The industrial appeal and electronic playlists became a heritage, not a here-today-gone-tomorrow spirit.

Fast forward to today, Humboldthain is a lesser-known nightlife hub on Berlin’s clubbing map. Frequented by locals and powered by an alternative feel, the multi-faceted venue oozes a Berlinesque vibe but makes it laid-back.

The club is located in central Berlin’s Mitte

Housed in one of the city’s most lusted-after boroughs, Humboldthain Club Berlin is a stone’s throw away from its eponymous park. Humboldthain Park is a green oasis surrounded by concrete mazes where rose fragrances and vibrantly green lawns reign supreme.

A quick peek at the area would make one realize that Humboldthain’s neighbors are the epitome of multiculturalism.

As a former heavily-bombed area during World War II, Humboldthain’s area safeguards an underworld of historic bunkers, old cellars, and anti-aircraft tunnels. 

An eye-catching landmark reminiscent of the Nazi era is the Humboldthain Flak Tower. The blockhouse’s concrete structure once served as air-raid shelters for more than 10,000 civilians and defense weapons against aerial attacks.

Nowadays, the former bunker is blanketed in sheer graffiti and offers sweeping views of north Berlin during the summer season.

Humboldthain Club Berlin proves that strong essences are kept in small bottles 

As soon as you set foot in Humboldthain, your first dilemma will be whether the club is heavily decorated or not decorated at all. Well, the answer is somewhere in between. In a world where most nightclubs want to go all flashy and flamboyant, Humboldthain Club Berlin likes to keep things simple.

With modest disco balls, tiled floors, and vintage sofas, the one-story techno sanctuary is all about living room vibes. Its alternative appeal is undeniably present, as graffiti-covered brick walls and scrapped murals are also part of the package.

The bar’s sampler-shaped LED wall is responsible for cooling off the rough aesthetics and adding a dash of originality.

Away from the indoors’ foggy atmosphere, a sand-covered garden scattered with hammocks and seatings displays the ‘it’ chilling area. Depending on the season, the outdoor area can also showcase other features, such as ping pong tables and campfires.

Humboldthain eats electronic tunes for breakfast, lunch and dinner 

Giving prominence to Berlin’s anthem, Humboldthain has a diverse music repertoire – and by diverse, we mean electronic subgenres only.

Anything from house beats to underground techno tracks blast through the club’s speakers until the wee hours of the morning.
