At Amnesia Ibiza, there’s no such thing as “last call.” Come experience the energy of a never-ending party.

Since its inception in 1976, Amnesia has been an oasis of sound and celebration tucked away between San Antonio and Ibiza Town. Its hallowed walls span two distinct spaces: a large dance floor alongside a private balcony that overlooks the revelry below.

Ibiza’s renowned Amnesia nightclub is revered for its unbeatable selection of pulse-pounding electronic music, beckoning tourists with an ardent preference for techno and house.

Hence, it has garnered a reputation as one of the island’s most talked-about nightlife spots, pulling in huge crowds every week.

From Naomi Campbell to Cristiano Ronaldo, the Ibiza nightclub is a world-renowned destination for A-list nightlife.

Its renowned VIP treatment goes above and beyond for international guests, ensuring an unforgettable experience every time.

If you have been longing to experience Ibiza’s most renowned club, Amnesia – recently hailed as the Best Global Club by the International Dance Music Awards in Miami – is the way to go.

Here’s everything you need to know Amnesia Ibiza.

The venue was originally a family home

Before Amnesia became the party hub we all love and know, the nightclub was the home of the Planells family.

Instead of a sprawling mega club, Amnesia was originally a finca inhabited by the family for a staggering five generations of ownership.

But in the roaring 70s, the Planells decided to sell their home to a widow with aristocratic roots.

Amnesia Ibiza was a meeting point for hippie culture

Before there was techno music, Amnesia was filled to the brim with hippie bands, flower children, and recreational drugs.

Ibiza’s status as a refugee for whoever wants to live his life under the Carpe Diem mantra made the Spanish island a haven for hippie culture.

Since its early days, Amnesia painted the picture of a place for free love and decadence – which was exactly what hippies wanted.

And its reputation has not changed since.

The original founder of Amnesia was a philosopher

Antonio Escohotado, a philosopher from Madrid, had been a five-year Ibiza resident when he decided to sign a lease for Amnesia in 1976. Back then, Escohotado began to fill the venue with musical instruments. This became the very foundation of the now-famous clubbing destination.

Soon after, he decided to launch a discotheque in the building called El taller de los olvidadizos – the workshop of the forgetful ones.

The name represents the people who want to ditch the ordinary in favor of a hallowed dancefloor. Later on, Escohotado realized there was a shorter word for that – Amnesia.

Dance music took over Amnesia Ibiza in the 80s

After operating as a discotheque for quite some time, the clubbing mecca found its sound – electro-soaked beats.

By the early 1980s, house music reared its head on Ibizian shores, creating the music movement that would transform the Spanish island into a party heaven.

But Amnesia was one of the first clubs to blast bumpy electronic beats through its speakers. You could pretty much say that this music temple was a trailblazer for the Ibizan sound.

Amnesia was the birthplace of the original Balearic Beat

During Amnesia’s peak, an Argentinian artist named DJ Alfredo landed on Amnesia’s dance floor in 1983.

While making the most out of his residency in Amnesia, DJ Alfredo began playing a rebellious combination of dance music blending indie hypnotic grooves, mystic rock and early house.

This eclectic mix was later dubbed the Balearic beat.

Its breezy aesthetic and unapologetic musical freedom proved to be the summeresque soundtrack for every Ibiza vacationer and party animal.

Amnesia Ibiza was awarded “Best Global Club” for four years

Thanks to its historical legacy and constant commitment to delivering unforgettable clubbing sessions, Amnesia was awarded as the Best Global Club by the International Dance Music Awards in Miami

Not only once – but four times. Amnesia Ibiza stood tall on its throne from 2007 to 2009, and then made a comeback in 2011. The award serves as a testimony of Amnesia’s cultural input to the clubbing scene throughout the decades.

Popular American socialite Paris Hilton DJed at Amnesia Ibiza

When American socialite and original influencer Paris Hilton is not busy with her business empire, she’s doing DJ sets for clubs.

Back in 2013, Paris graced Amnesia’s DJ booth with her set and shiny bathing suit, pumping out iconic artists like Avicii and Nicky Romero.

And the Ibizan club remained a regular gig for Hilton.

It might be because Amnesia was the first party the A-list celebrity attended on the Spanish island – so every time she takes over the audio decks feels like a homecoming.

Partygoers can enjoy an all-in-one VIP service

It can get very crowded at Amnesia, so it’s best to book the club’s exclusive VIP service – if you don’t want to queue up for the entrance or bathroom.

By purchasing Amnesia’s VIP service, you can avoid the excruciatingly long queue and waiting times through the shortcut of a secret entrance.

If you go for the full VIP treatment, you will get a table and a general VIP bathroom. Considering how crowded Amnesia can get, the latter will probably feel like the best financial investment you’ve made lately.

Amnesia Ibiza hosts the wildest parties

As a clubbing destination embodying the untamed 90s’ spirit, Amnesia is a pro at hosting effervescent parties. One of its strongest selling points when it comes to clubbing is the iconic Cocoon parties.

Starting back in 1999, Cocoon is a lusted-after yearly event that puts techno beats on a pedestal. In the past, it featured iconic names from the music realm, such as Ricardo Villalobos and Sven Väth.

Besides Cocoon, Amnesia’s well-known for its annual opening and closing parties. Those parties have one mission – to embody the full-on Ibizan vibe. This could easily translate into a clubber monopolizing the dancefloor, even though it’s 6 AM and the sun is streaming from above.

The club experienced a considerable expansion

With decades of history behind its back, it’s no secret that Amnesia has undergone some significant changes. In the beginning, there were only four bars and a staff of only 30 people.

As time passed by, the club upgraded to 16 bars and increased its staff to 200 employees. Today, the 5,000-capacity megaclub is supported by a handful of dedicated teams, ranging from entertainers and waiters to administration and security officers.

Welcoming guests from all over the world to partake in its wildest, star-studded parties, Amnesia remains top-tier when it comes to Ibiza’s nightlife scene.
