Here’s everything you need to know about Club Chocolate Santiago.
Club Chocolate opened in 1993, witnessing staggering growth in size and popularity as it swiftly etched its name among Santiago’s success stories.
The nightclub used to go by the name of Rockola, then a cozy bar with a capacity of 150 partiers crammed in a two story-building. Rockola shared the building with another bar and a rehearsal space where iconic Chilean bands like Los Jaivas and Los Prisioneros created their music.
Influential artists like Argentinian rock legend Charly García stumbled through the bar’s doors, each pushing Rockola further down the road of becoming the notorious Club Chocolate.
By 2002, Rockola had brought the competition to its knees and had the whole building to itself. While sitting on the throne of the neighborhood’s nightlife, the nightclub changed its name to Zoom.
Like Kylie Jenner’s baby name, Wolf Webster, Zoom wasn’t it. Four years later, the club returned to its birth name – but the Rockola era ended on a sad note in 2010 when a massive fire broke out, taking the whole building in its wake.
The fire wasn’t kind to Rockola, as the interior was damaged beyond repair. Despite the losses, the club’s legacy was left untouched. Rising from the ashes, Rockola was reconstructed and owned by Gema Gómez and Juan Carlos Velázques and finally turned into the Club Chocolate we know today.
The nightclub is nestled in Recoleta, Barrio Bellavista, north of Santiago.
Quite ironically, Recoleta means a quiet and secluded place – however, the reality is anything but that.
When wandering through the streets of Recoleta, colorful graffiti and mosaics will steal your breath away while the buzzing music seeping from nightclubs doors will add a skip to your steps.
From offbeat art galleries and authentic Chilean cuisine to the largest farmer market in Chile, La Vega Central, Recoleta shows you the best Santiago has to offer.
Artists and the crème de la crème of intellectual minds aren’t strangers to Recoleta.
La Chascona, once home to the Chilean Nobel prize-winning poet, Pablo Neruda, is a tourist fixture in the district.
Far from the ordinary, La Chascona is a labyrinth of stairs and secret passages fashioned with intricate details. The house was built for Matilde Urrutia, then the poet’s mistress – and even “Chascona” is the nickname Pablo gave Matilde for her fiery red hair.
The Bohemian vibe doesn’t end there. Barrio Bellavista’s boutiques are the perfect place to get a piece of jewelry with lapis lazuli, a semi-precious stone. Its vibrant palette and shiny texture was the go-to wallpaper in the Tumblr era, but this bad boy was also used as eyeshadow by Cleopatra for its striking blue color.
Hip, young, and an art piece in its own right is one way to describe Recoleta. The neighborhood is certainly a breath of fresh air away from the dullness of black-and-white life.
Spanning over 1,000 square meters, the nightclub is fully ready to capture the wildness of 800 revelers. With dark walls and shiny chandeliers, Club Chocolate takes on a sleek, laid-back look while the lighting system adds a touch of color.
Club Chocolate Santiago features an impressive stage worthy of the talents that performed on it. With mezzanine balconies, you’re guaranteed a vantage view no matter where you are.
Whether you’re a tufted couch or leather chair kind of person, the 286 customized chairs got your butt covered.
With three different bars to hang out at, you will never have to survive never-ending queues.
One reason for Club Chocolate’s roaring success is its multifaceted character. The club easily changes with the whims of the night from a wild concert venue to an even wilder nightclub.
If you’re looking to launch a product, film a commercial, perform a play or throw a stand-up comedy benefit, Santiago’s gem of a club is there for all the milestones.
There is no lie in the fact that this nightclub promises to get you jamming every time you pass through its doors. From Latin pop to electronic music and from reggaeton to rock, the banging beats are bound to lure in like a siren’s call.
Despite the club’s unconditional love for all genres of music, Latin pop surely is the mistress of the house.
If retro music and nostalgic tunes are your kink, this nightlife hub has you covered. Club Chocolate Santiago holds a time machine in its back pocket, taking you two and three decades back in time with its ABBA songs, foot-tapping sounds signed by Queen, and tear-jerking The Beatles ballads.
Treasured national artists like Grammy winner Beto Cuevas, gods of rock Los Tres, pop music heartthrob Gepe, and global sensation Anita Tijoux, are a window to Chilean culture.
If you still aren’t swept away by Club Chocolate, these A-list artists will surely seal the deal: Auténticos decadentes, The Horrors, and Zoé.
Serving lip-smacking cocktails is yet another feature that Club Chocolate has in store. The number of boozy concoctions offered will keep you busy and your tastebuds completely satisfied.
When you ingest one-too-many cocktails, your stomach and brain will scream for some greasy food. No worries – the Santiago nightclub thought about that too.
The second floor’s seating area is where you can get a good dose of fast food. From juicy burgers to pizza, the taste will bring you to life again.
Entry fees for Club Chocolate Santiago vary, depending on the event and lineup.
Do you ever dream of watching Micheal Jackson moonwalk? While the nightclub has yet to master the art of resurrection, it brings you the next best thing.
Club Chocolate’s tribute nights are an unparalleled experience. From Micheal Jackson to Guns N’ Roses and Coldplay, you’ll get to dance to all your favorite songs.
If you want to see real magic happen, Club Chocolate is happy to oblige.
An occasional circus night is held with the entire squad – jugglers, trapeze artists, unicyclists, tightrope walkers, you name it.
The nightclub brings out the big guns with occasional burlesque and blues nights.
Not one for the faint of heart, the melancholic music, sexy burlesque shows, and pole dancing will leave you breathless.
One thing to know about Club Chocolate is that it is more than a club – we like to think of it as a festival. The occasional hot dog cart and claw machine prove that having fun is the only rule you must follow on Club Chocolate’s grounds.
With diversity in music and unlimited forms of entertainment, people of all backgrounds get the nightclub’s appeal.
Hitting a soft spot for many of its party animals, Anime Rock Project once performed at the club. For one night, the crowd’s anthem was the theme music of some of the most epic anime series like Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, and Demon Slayer.
The Chilean band, formed by Mauro Silva, Memo Aguirre, Edgardo Moraga, and Fabres, has taken the country by storm. Playing both classic and contemporary anime soundtracks, Anime Rock Project indulges the huge Chilean anime fanbase in nostalgia and bliss.
