In a crackdown on rowdy gatherings, the Balearic Islands’ authorities have set their sights on tourists attending unlicensed events in popular party destinations like Majorca and Ibiza.
Local media reports that fines for organizing, marketing, advertising, and participating in illegal parties can reach up to £25,000. Organized house parties could face maximum fines of £260,000.
This upcoming summer, authorities are set to halt the surge of “irregular commercially-promoted parties” on the two islands.
Party enthusiasts are safe when heading to Ibiza clubs like Pacha and Amnesia, as official venues remain exempt from fines.
Since Ibiza is a popular summer destination for Brits, the UK Foreign Office issued a statement advising British holidaymakers to remain mindful of unlicensed parties.
“Licensed clubs and bars are required to meet safety and security standards, including emergency exits and capacity limits, and to have trained, licensed security staff. Irregular commercial parties may not meet these standards.”
Tourist rules in the Balearic Islands include limits on free booze in all-inclusive packages and bans on all-you-can-drink bar.
Spain has also introduced rules to tackle rowdy behavior, such as restrictions on alcohol sales in shops during certain hours.
