Berlin’s legendary sex club KitKat can add another documentary to its CV. A new film paying tribute to the venue’s nocturnal hustle and notorious debauchery will make its way to the grand screens in 2023.

Drawing inspiration from one of the club’s garden signs, the KitKat club documentary is titled KitKatClub – Das Leben ist ein Zirkus, which translates to KitKatClub – Life Is A Circus

Directed by Philipp Fussengger – who is himself a regular of the sex-positive mecca, mind you – the documentary tells the behind-the-scenes story of one of the lusted-after Berlin sex clubs

After it received a jaw-dropping €100,000 in funding, the KitKat documentary kicked off its production during the pandemic. Since the club hibernated during these months and was solely used as a COVID-19 testing center, the space was the main backdrop to fully encapsulate KitKat’s hedonistic rawness.

With a focus on free expression and taboo culture, the KitKat club documentary explores the venue’s historical impact by interviewing loyal patrons and owner Kirsten Krüger. By focusing on their personal experiences and stories KitKatClub – Life Is A Circus promises a hush-hush behind-the-scenes experience.

When it saw daylight for the first time in 1994, the KitKat haven was a mere twinkle on East Berlin’s nightclubs map. Famed for its sexual openness as much as its music, KitKat swiftly climbed the ladder as one of Berlin’s epicenters for nightlife entertainment.
